Geneva; Alma C. Vega, age 68 of Ave B passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Friday September 12, 2014 at home.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday (Sept.17) at the McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home 45 High St. Geneva. Funeral services will be held on Thursday (Sept. 18) with prayers at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home and a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Francis DeSales Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to a Breast Cancer or Lupus Association.

Alma was born on May 18, 1946 in Coamo, Puerto Rico the daughter of the late Luis and Pura DeJesus Fuentes. After receiving her Nursing Degree from Finger Lakes Community College, she retired after 25 years as a Registered Nurse from the New York State Department of Correctional Facility.

Alma was an active member of St. Francis Church. She took pleasure in reading and can often go through entire book in a day. It was her thirst for adventure that eventually led her to travel to some of her favorite places around the world. Fiery and fearless, her family and friends would describe her as one of the strongest most independent woman they know. Sharp, outspoken and honest she was quick to voice her opinions. As an advocate of animals she referred to her many dogs through years as her “babies”. Her greatest loves in life being her children.

She is survived by her children; Alma (Alexis Aguirre) Alvarado of Austin, TX, Josseline Alvarado of Geneva; Zuleika (Eric) Walker of Houston, TX; Jaime (Heather) Vega, Jr. of Rome, Joshua (Lisa) Vega of Liverpool; step sons, Richard Vega and David (Marilyn) Vega both of Rochester; 11 grandchildren; sisters and brother, Maria Fuentes, Jose (Hildita) Fuentes and Vivan Fuentes; sister and brother in-law’s Betty Vega, Mary (Peter) Achilles, Lettie (Jim) Rodgers, Maria (Marlin) Howley, Juanita (Bill) Flanigan, Carlos Torres, Alma Vogt, Ben Torres, and Norma (Walter) Russ; several nieces and nephews.

Alma was predeceased by her husband Jaime Vega and a brother, Luis Fuentes.
