Golfing Memories

I played golf with John for forty years, off and on, and knew him as a delightful companion and a very good golfer. In recent years, our mutual golfing friend John Stetz and I would often finish our first nine holes on a weekday afternoon at Silver Creek and see John waiting on the ninth green to join us and play along on the back nine. Although we didn’t see him this past summer, we always thought he might turn up. He may have known already about his cancer two summers ago, when we last played with him; if he did, he never mentioned it, and that reticence would have been characteristic of the man. We have lost a friend. I, and many others in the golfing community who played with John at Silver Creek and Big Oak, will remember him well and think of him often. My deepest condolences to his family. Ted Thiesmeyer
