Loving wife, mother, grandmother & great-grandmother

GENEVA- Marion P. Bero, age 86, of Geneva passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at Geneva General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Family and friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday (April 2) at the McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home at 45 High St. in Geneva. Prayers will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home and a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, Marion asked that her friends and loved ones consider donating blood for use in platelet, plasma, and blood transfusions.

Marion was born on April 6, 1931, in Rochester, NY to the late Durando and Rose Loiacona Petrossi. She attended Sacred Heart Academy, St. Margaret Mary Catholic School, Mercy High School in Rochester, and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Albany. Marion went to Regis College in Boston for two years and graduated from Barry University in 1953 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology as well as minors in Spanish, English, and psychology.

She was a former member of the Geneva Country Club and enjoyed volunteering at Happiness House, Geneva General Hospital Guild, and Finger Lakes Family Counseling. Marion and her husband, John J. Bero, Jr. (“Jack”), loved to travel and vacation with their family. While they were particularly proud of their cross-country motorhome trip all the way to Alaska and their other travels in Canada, Europe, and Mexico, Marion’s favorite vacation involved taking her entire extended family on a Caribbean cruise for her and Jack’s 50th wedding anniversary. After retirement, Marion combined her love of traveling with her passion for square dancing by trekking all over the country with Jack to participate in various group dancing events. They enjoyed many years in Naples, FL, where their home was always open to family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, John J. Bero, Jr.; daughter, Lorraine (Charles Blowers) McGuigan of Geneva; sons, John (Diane) Bero, III of Canandaigua, Steven (Cynthia) Bero of Canandaigua, David (Sandra) Bero of Canandaigua; grandchildren, Francis (Arielle Colton) McGuigan, Rebecca McGuigan, John (Elizabeth Bruen) Bero, IV, Jeffrey Bero, Nicholas (Jeanine) Bero, Stefanie (Stephen Perry) Bero, Christopher Bero, David Bero, Jr., Allyson Bero; great-grandchildren, Addison McGuigan-Westfall, Adrian Bero, Ainsley Bero, Micah Shmilovich; brother Durando (Lucille) Petrossi, Jr. of Rochester; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
