GENEVA- Clara J. Lewis, 94, passed quietly in her sleep on Tues., Oct. 17 at Living Center South, where she resided for the past 4 years.

Friends may call from 2:00 to 3:30 pm on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home, 45 High Street, Geneva New York. A religious celebration will be held at the funeral home at 3:30 with burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery immediately following.

Contributions may be directed to Our Lady of Peace Parish, 130 Exchange St., Geneva, NY 14456, or the American Cancer Society, 1120 South Goodman St., Rochester, NY 14520.

Clara was born in Bethany, NY on March 21, 1923 to Evan and Persis (Chapman) Lewis. She was a 1941 graduate of Alexander Central School in Alexander, NY., where she excelled in math.

Clara worked for many years as a cashier at Loblaws Supermarket and later CVS Pharmacy in Batavia, NY. She was a past parishioner of the West Bethany Baptist Church. She lived most of her life in the Batavia, NY area having moved to the Geneva area about 10 years ago to be closer to her son and family.

She was an outstanding Cook, an avid Seamstress, and an accomplished Quilt Maker. Her baked beans, apricot squares and various pies were famous throughout the Finger Lakes.

“Mimi Clara” cherished her four granddaughters and enjoyed staying at her son’s home with family and their dog “Moose”. She loved all animals, and had several cats and dogs throughout her life.

She is survived by her son, Michael P. Canale, daughter in law Marien (Oddi) Canale of Romulus and grandchildren: Marla E. Canale, Mia A. Canale, Michele C. Canale of Buffalo, NY, and Marisa J. Canale of Rochester, NY. ; her niece Linda Rindell, sister- in- law, Ruth Lewis; Nephews Richard Lewis, Gary Lewis, and Paul Lewis of Batavia, NY and families.

Clara was predeceased by her brothers Donald, Howard and Alfred Lewis ,her former husband Peter M. Canale , nephew Walter Lewis and niece Karen Rindell all of Batavia, NY.
