GENEVA- Helen B. Ventura, age 97 of Geneva passed away on Saturday January 7, 2017 at Geneva General Hospital.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday (Jan. 11) at the McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home, 45 High St. Geneva. Members of the Geneva Sons of Italy will meet at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday (Jan.12) at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home and 9:30 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis-St. Stephen School Education Fund 17 Elmwood Ave. Geneva, NY 14456 or to a charity of choice.

Helen was born on July 23, 1919 in Geneva the daughter of the late John and Ruth Spong Bonnell. She was a lifelong resident, graduating from Geneva High School and in 1937 married P. Mark Ventura. Helen worked at various places in Geneva and retired after many years from the Geneva City School Dist. Cafeteria.

Helen was a member of St. Stephen’s Church, Geneva Woman’s Club, Red Hat Society, Senior Citizens Club, Sons of Italy Geneva Lodge 2397 and St. Stephen’s Rosary Society. She received the Senior Citizen of the year award in 1999 and was well known for her love of cats. Helen was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her 2 sons, William (Bridget) Ventura and Gary (Anne) Ventura both of Geneva; 9 grandchildren, Scott, Steven, Amy, Rebecca, Keaton, Mary Kate, Nicholas, Gary,Jr. and Samuel; 13 great-Grandchildren; 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen was predeceased by her husband, P. Mark Ventura; brothers, William Bonnell and Jack Bonnell; sister, Hazel Stewart.
