THE VILLAGES, FL- Robert Joel Quigley, age 73 of The Villages, FL and formerly of Geneva passed away on Friday November 18, 2016 in Florida.

A celebration of life is being planned for May 2017 in Geneva at a date and time to be announced.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Bob was born on July 21, 1943 in Clifton Springs the son of the late John and Margaret Schroeder Quigley. He grew up in Geneva and graduated salutatorian of DeSales High School Class of 1961. He was class president, member of the yearbook staff and excelled in athletics on the varsity basketball and baseball teams.

Bob enlisted in the United Sates Navy where he was trained as an electronics technician. While setting up a communication system in Cuba, he suffered an accident and retired with an honorable discharge in 1962. Bob graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from St. John Fisher College and went on to earn an MBA from Rochester Institute of Technology. He taught business math and computer science at Geneva High School for over 30 years, serving as the business department chairman. Bob installed the first computer lab for student use at the high school in the early 1980’s. He was a member of the teacher’s union and was active in teacher contract negotiations. He also coached high school varsity cross country and recreational softball programs.

A self-taught musician since his youth, Bob loved music and played the guitar and bass around the Finger Lakes in local bands. He enjoyed swimming and playing golf in the Villages, FL, where he and Gloria lived for the past 12 years.

He is survived by his wife Gloria; daughter, Michelle (Kent) Quigley Pearson of Seattle, WA; son, Robert (Susanne) Quigley of Loveland OH; grandchildren, Nash and Jack Pearson, Jonathan, Caelan and Julia Quigley; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bob was predeceased by his brother, Father John Quigley and his sister, Gail Stivers.
