The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Robert Taney can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Robert (Bob) John Taney

Geneva; Robert (Bob) John Taney, passed away Thursday February 25, 2016 peacefully at home with family at the age of 84.

Calling hours will be held Sunday (Feb.28) from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m at McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home 45 High St., Geneva. Members of the K of C will meet at 5:00 pm at the funeral home and members of the American Legion will meet at 5:30 pm at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 am at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Stephen's-St. Francis School or Geneva's Center of Concern.


Bob was born in Geneva June 12th 1931 to Cornelius and Alice Taney. He graduated from DeSales High School, served in the Air Force during the Korean War and then worked for the Seneca Army Depot, a career that spanned decades. He married the love of his life and fulfilled his lifelong dream of raising a close knit but large family of 6 very happy children. He was a huge sports fan and spent much of his adult life volunteering as a coach for Babe Ruth Baseball, CYO basketball, and most notably football for DeSales High School. As a result, He touched the lives of hundreds of young athletes. Bob was also an avid golfer in retirement.

Bob volunteered at the Center for Concern, was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 272 and American Legion Winnek Post 396.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris (Litzenberger); His children, Bernadette (Joseph) Irving, Robert (Barb) Taney, Joseph Taney, Michael Taney, Jeffery (Amy) Taney and Patrick Taney; grandchildren, Liza, Jack, Nathan, Christopher, Mary, Olivia, Zachary, Collin, R.J. And Dakota; sister, Alice (Lou) LeBrun; brother, Al (Mary Ellen) Taney and several nieces and nephews.

Bob is predeceased by his parents; brothers, Reverend Francis Taney and Cornelius Taney and sister, Margaret Robinson.
