Heather Munson Aten

Geneva; Heather Munson Aten age 81 of Geneva passed away on Friday December 19, 2014 at the Hospeace House in Naples.

There will be no prior calling hours. A memorial service will be held in the Presbyterian Church in Geneva on Saturday January 10 at 2:00 p.m.

Heather was born on January 3, 1933 in Sayville, NY the daughter of LaVerne Whitely Munson and Samuel K. Munson. She graduated from Sayville High School and The College of Wooster. She taught Physical Education for a few years and later was Executive Secretary for the Ontario Day Care Center. She married Carl F. Aten, Jr. July 9, 1955 and had four children; Steven, Ralph (deceased), Keith and Lorraine. She and her family moved to Geneva in 1962.

She had long-term interests in The League of Woman Voters and in Ontario-Yates Hospice. The League honored her in June 1997 with The Agnes Slosson Lewis Award and again in October 2010 with a lunch for her initiatives in starting the “Lunch with the League” program (for woman to hear prominent woman speakers) and the Geneva Court Watching Project. She started both programs in 2000. She became a Hospice Volunteer in the early 1990’s when the Hospice program began, she believed strongly in Hospice care.

She served on the Parish Nurse Committee at The Presbyterian Church in Geneva. Over the years she served on various Boards, including The Geneva free Library, The Smith Opera House and Geneva Concerts. She argued for building the Ice-Skating Rink and enjoyed swimming, playing bridge and Tennis.
She is survived by her husband Carl, her daughter Lorraine (Arun) and her sons Steven (Tracie) and Keith (Bonnie).
Heather was predeceased by her parents, her sister Patricia Munson Koucky and her son Ralph.
