Penn Yan; Ruth T. Northrop, age 99 passed away on Monday November 24, 2013 at her home on Seneca Lake.

There will be no prior calling hours. Funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

Ruth was born on October 18, 1915 in Groton the daughter of the late John Leslie and Edith Mary Fletcher Tillotson. She was a graduate of the first graduating class of McLean High School, graduated from SUNY Cortland and received her teaching certification from SUNY Geneseo. Ruth retired after many years as an English Teacher at Fairport Junior High School.
Ruth was a member of the Geneva Woman’s Club, First Presbyterian Church of Pittsford and a former member of the North Presbyterian Church in Geneva and the Geneva Country Club. She was an avid reader & writer and enjoyed playing Bridge. Most of all Ruth was devoted to her family.

Ruth has surviving children, Robert (Sue) Northrop of Potsdam, James (Linda) Northrop of Pittsburgh, PA, Richard Northrop of Penn Yan, Thomas (Janet) Northrop of Tucson, AZ and Elizabeth Butler of Naples; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Whitcomb of Brighton; a brother, Richard (Georgie) Tillotson of Groton; several nieces and nephews.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Homer Hawthrone Northrop; a son, John Milton Northrop; brother and sisters, George, Laura, Barbara and Edith.
