Louis J. “Gene” Evangelista


Geneva; Louis J. “Gene” Evangelista, age 80 of Norwood Ave. passed away peacefully on Friday August 29, 2014 at Geneva General Hospital surrounded by his loving family by his side.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday (Sept. 2) at the McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home 45 High St. Geneva. Members of the Nester Hose Company will meet at 4:30 p.m. and members of the Knights of Columbus will meet at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (Sept. 3 ) with prayers at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum.

Louis was born on February 1, 1934 in Geneva the son of the late John and Mary Tenaglia Evangelista. He graduated from DeSales High School and retired after over 30 years from the City of Geneva Department of Public Works.
Gene was a Life member of the Nester Hose Company of the Geneva Fire Department, member of the Knights of Columbus council 272 Geneva and Our Lady of Peace Parish.
Gene was well known for his beautiful flowers, gardening and for everyone seeing him while taking his walks and knowing everyone.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Sarah; his daughters, Michele Evangelista of Bear, DE and Jeanne Evangelista of Geneva; sister, Ann Chima of Webster; several nieces and nephews.
Gene was predeceased by his brothers, Paul, Nick, Joe and Sylvio “Cvo” Evangelista; sister, Lucy Evangelista
