GENEVA– Sandra (Graves) Minister, 71, passed away peacefully at Keuka Comfort Care Home with her loving family by her side after a courageous battle with lung cancer on September 5th, 2018.

Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 8) at the McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home, 45 High Street, Geneva. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Thomas P. Mull will officiate. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sandie's honor to Thrive to Survive, PO Box 1146, Geneva, NY 14456 and Keuka Comfort Care Home, 35 NY 54, Penn Yan, NY 14527.

Sandie was born January 18, 1947, in Watertown, NY, the daughter of Charles and Virginia Graves. She made Geneva her home in 1978 and celebrated 39 years of marriage to her loving husband Andrew (Butch) Minister on August 4th, 2018. Sandie worked and retired as an Admissions Coordinator from Geneva General Hospital, after retirement she worked part-time at the Geneva City School District and at Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES.

Sandie was passionate about making a difference for others in her community and made it a priority to give back. In 1979, Sandie became Geneva's first female volunteer firefighter and volunteered at North Side Fire Company. During her retirement, Sandie continued to give back to her community by preparing and serving lunch to her fellow Genevans at the Geneva Community Lunch Program. Sandie was devoted to helping her daughter spread the word about Thrive to Survive. She was always the first to volunteer, fund raise, and she hand knitted countless hats and gloves for cancers patients in treatment.

Sandie loved cooking, baking, knitting and quilting. She enjoyed getting together with friends during her regular knitting classes and through the Lake to Lake Quilt Guild. Sandie's beautiful, handmade socks, scarves, and hats were loved by all, and it wasn't rare to see her grandchildren playfully fighting over Sandie's cozy creations during Christmas time. Everything she crafted was made with love.

When she wasn't in her sewing room, Sandie could be found playing Mahjong and Euchre with her many friends or enjoying slot machines and blackjack at the local casino. She had a competitive spirit and shared countless laughs with loved ones at her kitchen table - which she often turned into a card table - after family dinners.

Sandie is survived by her devoted husband Andrew (Butch); daughter Pamela (Joseph) Venuti of Rochester, NY; brother Richard (Mona) Graves of Scotia, NY; cherished grandchildren; Lauren Foe, Washington, DC, and Zachary, Austin and Cecilia Foe of Geneva; niece Catherine Cardinale (David Smith); daughter-in-law, Samantha Foe of Geneva and her lively Maltese dog Abbie.

Sandie was predeceased by her youngest son, Matthew MichaelJon Foe, parents Charles and Virginia Graves, and beloved dog Thomas.
