The lighting of a Memorial Candle not only provides a gesture of sympathy and support to the immediate family during their time of need but also provides the gift of extending the Book of Memories for future generations.

Sue FitzGerald Perry

I'm heart broken at the loss of one of my childhood friends. My faith reminds me you're in a better place and your suffering is over. Though my heart aches it is full of wonderful memories. I moved to the neighborhood when I was just 3 and we became friends soon after. Going to Kindergarten was so scary but I had Rich and Ralph by my side on the bus and in our half day class which included a nap back then. I think we spent more time on the bus then in class. Growing up was so much different in our day. We played outside, rode bikes, made our own ramp, racetrack, rode snow mobiles, went ice skating on the pond, went sledding and made ice ramps from water in the creek. Remember the snow forts we made in the drifts on my front bank and one collapsed on Eric then Kathie B. screaming at us all to dig before he suffocated. First time I realized something so fun could become dangerous. So back to the creek for water to ice up the walls to avoid future collapses. We used our minds to problem solve in our day. We made bonfires to keep warm and cook hot coco only going inside to get dry gloves and go out to continue playing. We played tag, kick the can, and many other games long into the night with no street lamps just the stars and moon light to guide us. No cell phones just a whistle with our fingers to find each other. We made forts out of baby trees and left over twine from the neighbors farm. Climbed to our tree fort using a rope not stairs (no knots). We had one organized sports team in the country, a coed baseball team. I got so nervous at the plate but since I was so short I usually got walked and coach Leo would put you up after me to bring me to home. I played second and you played short stop. We held the infield pretty well for our little bad news bears Bellona team. At least that's how I like to remember it. Then we grew up, moved, lost track of each other. I will hold these memories and so many more until we meet again my sweet childhood BFF.
