GENEVA- Virginia “Ginny” Alice Allen Smith, age 88, the heart of our family, passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 24, 2017. Ginny was a lifelong resident of Geneva, NY where she was born on May 4, 1929. She was one of nine children born to Carrie (Shires) Allen and Malcolm G. Allen

Family and friends may call from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday (May 30) at the McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home, 45 High St. Geneva. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church 520 S. Main St., Geneva. Burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery on Routes 5 & 20


Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

A consummate mother and homemaker, Ginny was her happiest when surround by her family and friends. She was an excellent seamstress and during WW11 worked at Sampson Naval Base altering uniforms. She also worked along with her mother as a seamstress at McCurdy’s. She retired from New York State Cornell Agriculture Experiment Station in 1994.

Ginny was predeceased by her loving husband of 68 years, Edward “Eddie” C. Smith. Ginny died exactly one year to the day from her late husband.
She is survived by her daughters, Gail (Daniel) Tompkins and Deborah Smith of Geneva; seven grandchildren, Tonia (Marc) Tanguay of California, Heather (Chelsey Madia) Tompkins of Penn Yan, Necia (Manslank) Bray and Holly Manslank of Geneva, Lindsay (Daniel) Hamilton of Palmyra, Morgan Fryer and Adam Fryer of Geneva; six great-grandchildren, Madison and Ryan Tanguay of California, Allyra Bray of Florida and Camaran Bray of Geneva, Ina (Tompkins) Madia of Penn Yan and Gavin George of Geneva; brothers, Kenneth R. Allen and Thomas (Janice) Allen of Geneva; several nieces and nephews.

She was also predeceased by her siblings, Esther (Edward) Hayes, Bertha (Edward) Dudash, Bernice (Gerald) Holland, Helen (James) Dougherty and Ruth (James) Moore, Malcolm (Shirley) Allen,II
