Obituary for Patricia J. McLaughlin (Vogt)

Patricia Vogt McLaughlin
WATERLOO – Patricia (Patty) J. Vogt McLaughlin, 64, of 0812 Waterloo-Geneva Road, Waterloo, NY, passed on Sunday, January 8, 2017 after a weekend of being surrounded by those she loved and trusted.
Patty was born in Waterloo, NY on June 13, 1952, the daughter of (the late) Robert N. Vogt Sr. and Dorothy Buck Vogt, and the third of their seven children, “Dad’s favorite”. She was a 1970 graduate of Geneva High School. Patty retired from P & C Foods after 41 years, having worked in a number of their stores in the surrounding area.
Patty hated flowery, gushing tributes and obituaries but she deserves a proper send-off. She was generous of spirit, giving of herself, and the “worrier” in the Vogt Family. We will miss her weather forecasts, thunderstorm warnings, and Google searches. She loved German Shepherds, Facebook games, bacon with Meri, diet Pepsi, scratch-off lottery tickets, penny slot machines and chocolate. But more importantly she fiercely loved her friends and family, complaining little and offering whatever she had. Patty supported us through phone calls, texts, and FB messages. She helped us obtain horses, cars and first jobs. Her Spirit and influence will live on, but her struggle and pain on earth have ended. She is at peace.
Patty is survived by her husband, Richard (Dick) (Mac) McLaughlin; mother, Dorothy (Mrs. Robert) Vogt; step-son, Scott McLaughlin of Rochester; brothers, Robert N. (Judith) Vogt Jr. of Waterloo, NY, Daniel (Dona Buckingham) Vogt of Lantana, Florida and Thomas Vogt of Seneca Castle, NY; sisters, Janice Vogt DiDuro and Dorothy Vogt Jr. of Geneva, NY; aunts and uncles; cousins; several nieces and nephews, with special love for Emily, Meredith and Trevor DiDuro; childhood friends and lifelong supports, Denise Townley and Gail Powers.
She was predeceased by her father in 1986, nephew Jared DiDuro in 1992, brother David Vogt in 2001, and many beloved canine “children”, including Samantha, Harley and most recently her best buddy, Shilo.
At Patty’s request, there will be no funeral service but calling hours to support the family whose hearts are broken will be held on Friday, January 13 from 4 – 7 pm at McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home, 45 High St, Geneva.
In Patty’s memory and honor, please consider making donations to the Yates County Humane Society, Ontario County Humane Society or Ontario-Yates Hospice, 756 PreEmption Rd, Geneva NY 14456.
Special gratitude to an angel dressed as a Hospice Nurse, Karen Strickland, who gently soothed the family’s soul with love, honesty and compassion, and provided support through the necessary decision making and advocacy. Much deep appreciation to the caring nurses of GGH ICU, too. The Vogt family is forever indebted to Mac for his years of love and taking care of our sister. Patty couldn’t have done it without him.
“Be safe out there!”...just because.
