GENEVA; Joseph M. Shane, age 64 of Geneva passed away on Tuesday November 29, 2016 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

There will be no prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday (Dec.2) at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

Joe was born on July 11, 1952 in Geneva the son of the late Joseph and Katherine Taylor Shane. He graduated from Geneva High School and served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War overseas aboard the USS Forrestal. Joe retired after 30 years as a Firefighter with the City of Geneva Fire Department.

He was a life member of the Nester Hose Company of the Geneva Fire Department, Geneva Knights of Columbus Council #272, Bishop John E. McCafferty Assembly #1501 Fourth Degree of Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #396 Geneva, International Association of Firefighters IAFF local 2859 and Ancient Order of Hibernians.

Joe was an avid Boston Red Sox and Green Bay Packers Fan and loved traveling and spending time up north at camp.

He is survived by his wife; Cathy, sons, Ryan, Kyle and Bren Shane all of Geneva;
Sisters; Kathy (Dave) Simmons of Denver, CO, Ginger (James) Hauf of Geneva and Peggy Shane of Geneva. Several nieces and nephews

Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his brother David Shane.
