Virginia Phillips Gunther


Canandaigua/Geneva; Virginia Phillips Gunther, age 98 passed away on Wednesday March 18, 2015 at the Geneva Living Center North.

There will be no prior calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home, Geneva. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Oaks Corners.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army 110 Saltonstall St. Canandaigua, NY 14424.

Virginia was born on January 24, 1917 in Newark the daughter of the late Joseph and Mae Hurton Carlyle. She was a graduate of Newark High School class of 1936. Virginia lived in the Geneva and Canandaigua area most of her life and was employed at many companies as a secretary.

She is survived by her son, Ronald (Bonnie) Phillips of Gorham; daughters, Joanne (John) Bradley of Port Charlotte, Florida and Janet (Soles) Buchanan of Canandaigua; nine grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Virginia was predeceased by her husbands, Merlyn Phillips and Ed Gunther; daughter & son-in-law, Diane and James McGuigan; brothers and a sister.
