Geneva; Harold D. “Danny” Plunkett, age 72 of Geneva passed away on Friday March 13, 2015 at the Geneva Living Center South.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday (March 16) at the McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home 45 High St. Geneva. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday (March 17) at the funeral home. The Rev. Thomas P. Mull will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or a local animal shelter.

Danny was born on December 15, 1942 in Geneva the son of the late Harold and Elizabeth Hawkins Plunkett. After graduating from Geneva High School where he played football and baseball he enlisted in the US Navy. Upon receiving his Honorable Discharge he attended Fullerton College and then the University of Long Beach in California receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Administration. Danny worked at Zales Jewelers in Anaheim, CA for many years before moving back to Geneva and owned and operated Geneva Diamond in downtown Geneva. He moved to Ely Nevada in 1989 as was the Director of Sports & Recreation at Ely State Prison for many years. After retiring from the prison he moved back to Geneva where he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Danny loved all sports but most of all baseball, coaching his daughter’s from the moment they could hold a baseball bat. He had coached both Geneva Little League and the Romulus High School Girls Softball Teams. He had also coached Jr. Olympic Softball in Ely.

Danny is survived by his wife of 47 years Lorna; daughters, Christina Plunkett of Las Vegas, NV, Wendy Plunkett Wright of Geneva and Teresa (Josh) Miller of Stanley; grandchildren, Morgan, Daniel and Kaitlyn Wright, Cameron Miller; nieces & nephews, Lisa Gibbs, Lynn Anania, Kevin Crawford, Kenny Crawford; brother-in-law, Ron Anania; many other cherished relatives.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Kelly Lynn Plunkett; sisters, Betty Crawford and Katie Anania.

The family would like to thank the staff from The Homestead in Penn Yan, Intensive Care Unit at Geneva General and Living Center South 3rd Floor for all their care.
